Klezperanto
By Arts Section Staff
Klezperanto (left), a new world beat dance band from Boston, will host a party in the Campus Center Frontroom this Saturday at 8 p.m.

Klezperanto has solid roots in the klezmer tradition, a lively folk dance music that developed in Yiddish communities in Eastern Europe and combines technical virtuosity with wry humor.

Klezperanto is not a purist group by any means, however, adding zydeco, rockabilly, funk, New Orleans second-line, cumbia and surf music to create an ultra-danceable mix that transcends categorization. To get a better idea of the band's unique sound, download audio clips at www.klezperanto.com.

The Klezperanto party is sponsored by the Program Board, the music department and Hillel of Amherst and Smith Colleges.
