I grew up in Manhattan, but I moved to Brookline, Massachusetts when I was, like, 13, so I went from the city to the suburbs. There was, like, grass around me, so me and my brother assumed we were living in the fucking boondocks.
Who has most profoundly shaped your life?
Right now I've got this girlfriend-her name is Mandy. I've been with her for like two years. Just being with her, I've learned a lot about who I am and about stuff in general.
There is a national student walkout planned on March 5 to protest the war. Do you think that Amherst professors should cancel classes in its support?
I think the idea of the people who came up with the concept of the student walkout is to promote a student movement within the anti-war movement more than there already has been, a general student movement in and of itself. While professors cancelling classes would be good because it would generate conversation around the issue in the forefront of students' minds, I think students walking out was the idea. It's not necessarily about students making a statement at the College, but it's saying that business can't go on as usual because they're killing hundreds of thousands of people, and it's something people can't just ignore and go about their daily business without thinking of. It's important for awareness to be spread.
If you could be a rock star, would you rather be solo or in a band?
Definitely in a band. I think that's part of the whole fun, having a kickass time with your friends, hanging out with a bunch of guys.
What song do you wish had been your hit single?
"Stairway to Heaven" by Zeppelin would be the best hit single to have. I think that's the most popular one going.
What are you doing for spring break?
My friends want to go down to Mexico and travel around the Yucatan, but that costs a bunch of money, so I might end up visiting my brother or something. He's a freshman at Oberlin.
Would you rather go on one of those booze cruises in the Caribbean?
I have no interest in going on a cruise in the Caribbean
Do you have a favorite pair of shoes?
I guess my favorite pair are these boots-they're very comfortable so I've taken to wearing them all the time. I had a favorite pair of sandals, but they got a hole in the bottom.
Do you have one of those Amherst Physics jackets?
Yeah, they're pretty fun.
Do you think math can be as beautiful as the fine arts?
No; I don't think math is beautiful. I think math is a tool. I think people who say math is beautiful are just full of themselves.
You smile a lot. How do you stay so happy?
A steady regimen of drugs. [Laughs] When I was kid I used to smile all the time. I don't know. I guess I just do-it's a lot better than being unhappy.
Why do you think you were chosen for this interview?
Because I'm such a good-looking guy.
Any last words?
I'd like to thank all the people who made this possible,
