The Personals: questions for Jessica Blanton '05
By Jennifer Wertheimer, Arts and Living Editor
Free ticket to MOMA. What's your first stop?

Anywhere there's sculpture.

Which is the best Ninja turtle?

Should I be ashamed? I don't want the whole campus to hate me, but I only saw the show a few times. I never had the action figures. I never really watched that show, I liked "Animaniacs." Umm ... which one had the fork things? Raphael?

Did you ever write a poem you were proud of?

I wrote one on an airplane about hating people on airplanes and at airports. It was good because it was really angsty, that kind of thing.

Are there any activities that your parents made you do as a kid?

They made me play with a dollhouse. My mom used to buy all the miniature furniture; she probably spent over $1,000, so of course I had to play with it. But other than that, no, they really didn't. And I resent that. They didn't encourage me to make friends in my neighborhood, so I didn't meet any friends until kindergarten.

What's in your CD player at this very moment?

Björk's "Post." I stole it from my mother. She had a phase where she bought that and a Cranberries CD.

What do you think of Amherst?

I love it when it's summer camp. I love it when it stresses me out. I hate it when I forget I love it. One thing I really don't like is there are too many tall people.

Do you think suicide should be illegal?

No. I think there are problems with it, but since there isn't really a punishment for suicide-other than going into a program, which should be encouraged anyway-it should not be illegal.

First crush: great or gruesome?

Nice alliteration. Mazel tov. It was six years long, unrequited. But it was cool; we're friends now.

If you could have been young in any decade of the 20th century, which would you pick?

I'd like to have been born 12 years old in 1960, because I wouldn't want to experience anything in the 1950s.

So ... where were you at Y2K, and how were you feeling?

I was watching a "Sex and the City" marathon in my house. I was feeling very, very upset because Carrie cheated on Aidan, and I saw the whole thing over a span of six hours. Sad. Sad. Sad. Sad.

If you could ask questions like these to anyone on campus, who would you choose?

A freshman, so that I could figure out their life story. If I could ask any questions, I would ask their major and about the weather. Because we talk about weather a lot, and people have weather personalities. Like, I have my own Cleveland weather particularities. I love the snow.

What's your favorite chick flick?

"Boys on the Side." I don't remember it at all, but I still think it's my favorite. Or "Much Ado About Nothing."

What's your earliest memory?

My three-year-old birthday party. It was a Brazilian party, meaning my parents invited everyone they knew and no one I knew. I remember I threw the presents at the wall.

Anything else you'd like to say?

Long walks on the beach, sushi and white wine.
