the personals: questions for Mike Bryant '04
By Priyanka Jacob, contributing writer
Where are you from?

Hotlanta. Depending on where you're from, it's also called Atlanta sometimes.

What did you love and hate about Atlanta?

The South has an overabundance of attractive females who take advantage of the warm weather by not wearing a lot of clothes. It was nice to get a break from that up here in Massachusetts so I could focus on my studies.

What did you love and hate about high school?

I hated that the school newspaper only came out once a month. It is so much better being able to get it every week here. I also never had an opportunity to paint myself purple for lacrosse games like I do here. Of course, part of that might have to do with the fact they don't have lacrosse in Georgia.

What TV show premiere will you absolutely not miss?

"24" does not start until the last Tuesday in October. 9 p.m. on Fox. I miss Kim Bauer.

What's the best class you've taken at Amherst?

The best class I've taken here was called not-Astronomy 11. We literally spent the second half of the semester talking about messages we would send to aliens if we had the technology. That is not a joke. I think the professor had watched "Contact" with Jodie Foster one too many times.

Almost everyone has an awkward stage. Did you have one?

Freshman year here was pretty awkward for me. I had a girlfriend back home so I didn't get out enough.

What kind of music are you into?

I'm a big fan of the boy bands. Not just the big names like N'Sync and Backstreet. I love all of them: 98 Degrees, Five, Hanson, you name it. Even a little of the old-school stuff. It's a pretty safe bet you can find some NKOTB or Wham in my CD player.

Are you changing your downloading habits as the RIAA cracks down on filesharing?

I'm not a big fan of the email scare tactics. To be honest, though, I'm not really worried. Fortunately, they aren't really cracking down on my "adult" downloads so it hasn't become an issue for me personally.

Favorite South Park character?

The short guy. I forget his name. He's smaller than the big, fat guy. He's got the yellow hair and the yellow skin. I think they call him Bort or Bart or something like that.

What do you want to make sure to do before you graduate?

I want to make sure I fulfill all of my major requirements and I am also working on a little side project entitled "Operation Don't Get Arrested."
