the personals: questions for Fouzia Khan '04
By Ali Hassan, contributing writer
What do you miss most from Bangladesh?

The food, my dogs and I'm supposed to say my Mom but ... my cook.

Yeah, I miss my cook a lot too. If you could date a contemporary celebrity, who would you choose?

George Clooney.

Hey, did you know that he's Gabi [Ferrer '05]'s cousin?

I don't care.

Whats your favorite scent?

Like perfume? There's a men's cologne, "Michael" by Michael Kors. I like men's cologne more then women's perfume. I think it's just really sexy. So I wear men's cologne. Women's perfume is more floral. Perfume can be spicy, but cologne is spicier and not as sweet.

What are your music tastes?

I used to play the piano and the sitar. But my taste is very, very bad pop. I like 'N Sync, Aqua and techno, Jimmy Eat World.

Last year you lived on Morrow's all-female floor. How was that?

I lived on the all-girls' floor freshman year, too, and I loved it. A lot of the people on the floor were the same as the people who I lived with freshman year-it's always like a slumber party. You sleep over, watch movies together, get manicures-it's just a lot of fun.

Do you like the way people dress at Amherst?

I have a soft spot for the preppies. So I'm gonna say yes, I like it a lot.

You're a senior English and econ. major-what do you want to do when you leave Amherst?

I think I actually want to be a financier. I look forward to working 120-hour weeks. I really enjoy working with big industries-I've worked with Shell Oil the last three summers, and it's just something I enjoy. It was funny, I went to the Career Center and expressed interest in working with an NGO that would spread literacy. She said I should join a consulting firm instead.

What's your favorite frat?

In order of preference: DKE, Chi Psi, TD, Psi U. DKE has the nicest boys, Chi Psi boys are nice but sometimes they are offensive. TD has nice people, I guess, but I really don't know them. And for Psi U, the less said the better.

What do you think of relations between upperclassmen and under- classmen?

I think I've become one of those seniors that I've always hated. I just don't have time to meet new freshmen. I don't mean to come off as snobby, but I'm already friends with the people I want to be friends with. I don't like how these freshmen are way cooler than they used to be. I didn't use to go crashing parties and being obnoxious to upperclassmen for alcohol. I didn't do that. So I don't like it when the underclassmen do that.

What's the most rewarding experience you've had at Amherst?

That's a hard question because every day is full of really rewarding experiences-finding a class that you enjoy, or writing a paper that you feel proud of meeting people that will become your friends.
