Attendance was high, with 600 more students present than the previous year. More than $10,000 was spent by the 2,500 people in attendance, $4,500 of which went towards charity. Six buses were chartered for late runs to Smith and Mt. Holyoke until 3:15 a.m. to accommodate five-college guests.
Women wore elegant formal evening dresses-"gowns that defied gravity," according to The Student. Several men attempted the chic look with red bowties and tails, or even cigars placed crookedly in their mouths as they placed their bets at the tables.
Three different bands entertained the high-rollers through the night, starting with the Euphonics's cabaret music, followed by the Midnight Shift playing a medley of old-time fiddle tunes and the "acid rock of the Grateful Dead." Bridge Street finished off the evening with covers of Van Morrison and more Grateful Dead.
Some students attended Casino! for pure entertainment, while others were there for charity purposes. Two unidentified students, however, were caught "stuffing bills into their dresses." One claimed that the $35 was a tip, while the other admitted that she stole it. Conversely, another student who landed a $60 payoff after placing his last two dollars down at the roulette wheel, returned the money to charity because he said he felt that he simply could not take it away from the kids who would benefit from the night's proceeds.
As the night rolled on, "consciousness plunged as low as the necklines … and some would go home the next day in the beaux's flannel shirt and jeans." There was dancing all over Valentine, and "inhibitions were swept away… Necking replaced gambling as the favorite sport on the Annex dance floor," reported The Student.
