Former astronaut and Senator John Glenn will speak at the College tonight at 8 p.m. His talk, which is sponsored by the Junior Class Council, is titled "The Space Program and Politics." In 1962, Glenn was the first human to orbit the earth, and has been a part of Mercury and other space shuttle missions since then. He also served as Ohio's representative in the Senate from 1974 to 1998 and ran as a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries in 1984. (Wed., April 7 at 8 p.m., Johnson Chapel, free.)

Come see the all-male quintet Rockapella perform at UMass this week. The group, which consists of five alumni from Brown University, originated the contemporary collegiate a cappella trend, creating a whole new musical phenomenon. After beginning their careers singing on street corners of New York City, Rockapella charmed its way into our hearts through public television and then went on to create a pop a cappella following in Japan. Now they return to New England for another rockin' show. (Wed., April 7 at 7:30 p.m., UMass Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, tickets from $7 to $25. For more information call 545-2511.)

Looking for music with attitude and an agenda? Attend the punk rock show at Smith College this weekend. The concert will feature local bands, as well as San Diego's innovative and impressive The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, a band that incorporates jazz (saxophones included) to punk in an original and intense cacophony of musical genres. Also featured is The Dream is Dead from Indianapolis. (Fri., April 9, 8 p.m., Carroll Room, Campus Center 208, Smith College, free.)

The Amherst College Chicana/o Caucus and the Asian Students Association (ASA) are proud to present a hip-hop weekend with their respective events Urban Mechanix IV on Friday at 8 p.m. and Microphone Bandits on Saturday at 8 p.m. Microphone Bandits presents South-East Asian artists such as DJ Kuttin' Kandi, Taiyo and Kontrast, while Urban Mechanix will feature a B-Boy battle between east coast and west coast groups. In addition, the ASA is sponsoring a graffiti workshop with professional New York-based graffiti artist Siddhartha Joag at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. (Fri., April 9 at 8 p.m. and Sat. April. 10 at 2:30 and 8 p.m., Frontroom, Keefe Campus Center, free for Amherst students.)

Sure it's cheesy and it probably falls under the chick flick category, but stop being an overly-serious Amherst student for once and enjoy yourself on no-brainer fun with "The Prince & Me." Starring teen-flick star Julia Stiles ("10 Things I Hate About You") as the driven medical school-bound Paige Morgan and Luke Mably ("28 Days Later") as the irresponsible Crown Prince of Denmark, the movie's strong point is admittedly not with its original plotline, as it borders on predictable from start to finish. Still, the script is both fresh and well written-especially for a chick flick-and the main characters are well developed. This is a great date film!
