Everything from Hot Cocoa to Bloody Mary

Homecoming is this weekend, which means tailgates and celebration parties. The recipes below will get you through the weekend, from pre-gaming with hot cocoa, to recovering Sunday morning with a spicy Bloody Mary sure to cure any hangover.

Pre-Game Warm-up: (Spiked) Hot Cocoa

5 T sugar

3 T cocoa powder

1 dash salt

3 T hot water

2 cups milk

1/4 t vanilla extract

In a large microwavable mug, combine sugar, cocoa powder, salt and hot water. Microwave for 1 ½ minutes. Stir well. Add milk. Microwave for 1 ½ minutes. Add vanilla extract. Optional: Add 1 ounce Malibu, Kahlua, Godiva, Bailey's, peppermint schnappes or white creme de menthe in place of vanilla.

Game Time Munching Part 1: Beer Dogs

1 can beer

6 hot dogs

6 buns

Your choice of toppings

In microwavable casserole dish pour beer over six dogs (don't forget to pierce dogs to prevent microwave explosions). Microwave for three minutes. Serve with your choice of toppings.

Game Time Munching Part 2: Seven Layer Dip

1 16-oz can Mexican style refried beans or chili

8 oz sour cream

8 oz guacamole

8 oz salsa

1 bunch scallions (green onions), sliced

1 8-oz bag Mexican-style cheese blend

1 8-oz can sliced black olives

In a 9x13 inch dish or on a large (disposable) serving dish, layer Mexican style refried beans or chili. Cover with sour cream, guacamole, salsa, green onions, cheese blend and black olives. Serve with tortilla or pita chips and veggies.

Post Game Party: Purple Cow Beater

½ oz tequila

½ oz rum

½ oz vodka

½ oz gin

½ oz Chambord raspberry liqueur

1 oz Sour mix

Sprite

Lemon slice

Fill a pint glass with ice, add alcohols and sour mix. Fill with sprite. Garnish with lemon.

Morning After Recovery: Bloody Mary

1 ½ oz vodka (optional)

8 oz V-8

Dash lemon juice

Dash Worcestershire sauce

Dash Tabasco sauce

Pinch black pepper

Pinch celery salt

1/8 t horseradish (or more)

1 celery stalk

1 wedge Lime

Combine first 8 ingredients in a large glass. Garnish with a celery stalk and lime wedge.
