The Amherst Survival Center is looking for volunteers to help with "Trash to Treasures," the biannual furniture sale that will take place at the end of May. Anyone who has expertise in logistics, creating fliers, organizing volunteers, arranging for pick-ups, phone calling, helping prospective customers and–yes–hefting and carrying furniture short distances is encouraged to apply. There will be a meeting for all interested in participating and getting to know Pioneer Valley neighbors. (Meeting: Thurs., March 16, 2 p.m., Amherst Survival Center. The Center is located at 1200 N. Pleasant Street, North Amherst. Call Diana at 549-3968, ext. 205., to address any questions or concerns.)

The English Department has invited Shakespeare scholar Margreta de Grazia, who currently teaches at the University of Pennsylvania, to deliver a talk entitled "Hamlet without Hamlet." Her work is interdisciplinary, encompassing the fields of literature, history and philosophy. She is the author of several books, the latest of which shares the title of the talk. (Thurs., March 16, 4:30 p.m., Babbott Room, Octagon. No admission charge.)

"Where We Find Ourselves," an exhibit of recent photographs by Justin Kimball, portrays photographs of ordinary people in natural, muddy, crowded and partially paved vacation spots, rather than the lush, white, sandy beaches and sky-blue seas usually associated with the term "vacation." Kimball received an M.F.A. from Yale University and is the recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography. (Exhibition through March 31, Jerome Liebling Center for Film, Photography and Video, Hampshire College. Gallery hours Mon. to Fri., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., 1 to 6 p.m. No admission charge.)
