the personals: questions for John "JTim" Timothy '07
By Katie Roza, Arts & Living Editor

How is Indianapolis different from Amherst?

Flatter ... much flatter. The cars go a little slower here too.

I saw on Facebook that you're majoring in Asian Languages and Civilization. Why?

It was a process of questioning, searching and looking inward to find the true anwers. Honestly, I started taking Japanese in high school because I was bored to death of Spanish. There, I said it. Don Quixote can bite me.

I also see that you're a music major. What instrument?

Funny story. I'm not a music major. I just make up a second major every time I update my profile. Last week was neuroscience.

How was working on the play "How I Learned to Drive" last semester?

It was lots of fun. I had the chance to be a cranky old codger AND an awkward teen, blossoming into a man. Those characters are my fortes.

Who is your favorite character on "Spongebob"?

I like Gary a lot. He's the strong, stoic type. I like that. He's also a snail. Kids dig that.

What was your most hilarious moment doing improv for Mr. Gad's?

Most hilarious? Well, I remember one show in which we talked for a really long time, forgot the rules to a game, became the physical embodiment of an abstract concept, made fun of a minority group and made some sex jokes. That was a pretty good show.

Where does the name Mr. Gad's House of Improv come from?

*Sigh*-prepare to be underwhelmed. Two of the founders, while discussing names for their improv troupe, discovered that they both had middle-school science teachers whose name was Mr. Gad. The coincidence so stunned them that they decided to hilariously name their improv troupe after the two Mr. Gads ... And here we are, in 2006 and it's still hilarious.

I hear you tend to remove clothing during Gad's. Care to comment?

Part of being a performer is knowing what the audience wants to see. In this case, it's often my ta-tas.

Are you aware that you have a fan girl following?

No, I was not. But, if they do actually exist, I'd just like to say that I am very disappointed in them. I have received no bouquets of roses, no letters written in blood, nor any macaroni portraits. Jeez, step it up.

Have you every capsized your boat while on the sailing team?

A regatta did not go by in which I made it through an entire race with

out dumping me and my crew overboard. I was really popular with the crew kids.

What are your plans for the summer?

I will be working in New York City this summer, interning for Startingbloc. It's a non-profit organization that hosts a spring semester fellowship about corporate social responsibility and sustainable business. I also plan on taking some classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. They're snazzy.

Any last words?

Klatuu Barada Niktu.
