The Amherst College department of music will present a production of Mozart's comic opera "Le Nozze de Figaro" ("The Marriage of Figaro") based on Pierre de Beaumarchais' play. The comedy narrates the story of Figaro, a valet in the court of Count Almaviva, who wishes to marry Susanna, his true love, and gets tangled in a web of jealousy and deception. The play will be directed by students of Professor Jenny Kallick's class "Creating Musical Drama," with professional opera singers and the Amherst College Orchestra accompanying the performance. (Sat., April 29, 2 p.m., Buckley Recital Hall. No admission charge. Tickets may be reserved by e-mailing amherstfigaro@gmail.com or calling 413-542-2195.)

The French department and the French Teaching Assistants will present two theatrical skits in this week's French Drama Workshop Performance. Two groups of French students of all competence levels will be acting in French; but do not be intimidated by their wonderful accents and French vocabulary as there will be subtitles accompanying the shows. One of the performances will be an excerpt of the humorous noir play "Un Air de Famille" (Family Resemblances). The other dramatic skit is based on Francois Ozon's renowned comedy "8 Femmes" ("8 Women") about a group of female relatives unveiling their secrets. (Thurs., April 27, 9 p.m., Friedmann Room, Keefe Campus Center. No admission charge.)
