Personals: Questions for Stephen Stewart '09
By Audrey Kim, Contributing Writer

Your Facebook profile says that you're from Hartford, Conn. Have you always lived there?

Yes. I've lived there for 19 years now, 19 long years, and I kind of wish we'd moved.

You're on the track and cross country teams here. What sport is your favorite to watch?

That's a difficult question. I like to watch the track meets when we're at them, but I guess professionally I like to watch the World Series of Darts because it's sweet. Those guys are really good. It's on like public access, some random channel, like channel three, depending on where you live. It's really sketchy, and it's a bunch of guys in dark rooms throwing darts at boards for hours. And hockey's okay too.

You have a WAMH show called "Choose Your Own Emo Adventure" that is listed under the Hardcore/Punk genre. Name an obscure song you played recently on your show that you would recommend.

I just recently added a segment to my show called "Artists of the Week," and it gives information on new artists that most people probably haven't heard of. This week, I did a band called "Heavens," which is a mixture of the lead singer from Alkaline Trio and some other guy whom he met in San Francisco, and they put together the guy's instrumentals with the lead singer's vocals and made this really cool album. This one song, "Annabel," is really cool, and I played it on my show. Everyone should go and listen to it.

We're in the middle of the holiday season. What is your favorite holiday, and why?

I would have to say Christmas, just because everyone is in a jolly mood. Winter is my favorite season. You get to have awesome snowball fights. There are decorations everywhere. Everyone's in the holiday spirit and it's really cool. It's nice when people are happy.

Does your family have any specific holiday traditions that you'd like to share?

We've been putting up the same fake Christmas tree for the past 18 years, and I guess this year it's broken. [Laughs] I don't know what we're going to do. It's actually really sad, we don't have a tree.

What is your favorite TV show?

This is going to be rather embarrassing, but "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I managed to watch the entire seven seasons last year, starting in January and finishing around April. Yeah, I kind of didn't do anything else besides watch "Buffy." I swear, it's a good show though.

I have heard that there are some ladies on campus (and perhaps off-campus) who find you attractive. Is there anything you would like to say to your secret admirers?

Sweet! Awesome. They should come and say, "Hello," to me and not be secret anymore, because I'm nice and I don't bite, unless they want me to.

What are the three most important qualities to you in a relationship?

Definitely communication. Without communication, everything else falls apart really fast. I'd say honesty next, because if you're going to be talking, you should be saying truthful things to each other. The aspect of friendship should be really important, because you have to be best friends with a person in order for it to really last for a long time. You can love someone romantically, but I feel friendship is a stronger bond.

What kind of technology would you like to have available in the year 2100?

I think transporters that allow you to access food really easily would be sweet. I'm a very lazy person and I also like to eat a lot. If there were a way to get food to me faster and with the least amount of effort and/or walking, that would be perfect. Preferably, it would be right next to the computer so I could sit there and eat all the time.

What is your favorite decade of the 1900s?

The 90s, of course. That's when we grew up, and it's really a travesty how badly the TV shows I used to like have gone downhill. Do you remember pogs? Pogs were incredible. And yo-yos. The 90s definitely had an awesome aspect. Plus, Bill Clinton was President.

If you had to live over one year of your life, which year would you choose?

Senior year of high school, just because I was on top of the world as far as athletics, for sure. [In terms of] academics, I was in some of the best classes that my school offered. The girls flocked to me, clearly. I had nine offers, if not more. It was a good time in my life, with some new-found independence. It was sad to see that year go.

Who do you like more: Steve Carrell or Will Ferrell?

That's really hard. That's like asking me to choose between apple pie and freedom. Two great things that you just don't want to have to live without. I'm going to lean on the Will Ferrell side, because if you've ever seen "Elf," it's really funny. He's just done some great work. I mean, he's also got a cool brother who did that terrible movie, "Phone Booth."

They're not related. Colin Farrell is from Ireland, and Will Ferrell is from California.

I've been living a lie if they're not related. Oh, my God. I'm almost positive, they have to be.

Let me Wikipedia this.

Yeah, Wikipedia is our friend. This is like a moment of truth. It's like, "Does God exist?" Dammit. You've gotta be kidding me. I'm going to have to go cleanse myself. I can't believe they're not [related]. I'm speechless.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble.

You have no idea. All this time. Is he an only child? This is impossible. They could have been separated at birth or something. I'm going to write my senior thesis about how their brotherhood was kept under wraps.
