Amherst College's dance troupe will perform a variety of styles, from ballet to modern to jazz during the Amherst Dance Orientation Show. This selection of performances belong to a repertoire from last year. Students are invited to meet peers who share in a passion for dance. A small reception will follow the event. "Westfield Arts of the Green," the signature end of summer event dishes up many renowned artists. It showcases painters of all styles and media, children book illustrators, glass artists, wood workers, jewelers, and sculptors show and sell there special creations. Resident Counselors around campus will perform skits for new students during the RC Show. It's an opportunity to see your RC beyond his or her paternalistic aspect. This is arguably one of the highlights of orientation week. Even better, the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs will be in the Campus Center Atrium to hand out gifts to the Class of 2011! Remember to go to Opening Convocation, which formally opens the school year and welcomes new students to the College. President Marx will delivery his address. Honorary degrees will also be conferred. Mon., 7:30 p.m. – 8:45 p.m., Johnson Chapel. No admission charge.
