South African poet Yvette Christianse will share her poetry with the public at a reading sponsored by the Amherst College Creative Writing Center. Christianse is an associate professor of literature and postcolonial studies at Fordham University and has published novels such as "Castaway" and "Unconfessed." Wed., 8 p.m., Amherst Books, 8 Main Street. No admission charge.

Well-known political blogger and Class of '90 alumna Marcy Wheeler will discuss her political commentary featured in various online blogs as well as her work as a print and Web-journalist. Wheeler has her own blog titled "The Next Hurrah" and has published a short primer called "Anatomy of Deceit," based on The U.S.v. Libby. Thurs., 8 p.m., Pruyne Lecture Hall, Fayerweather Hall. The Amherst College Choral Society, directed by Mallorie Chernin and co-directed by Suraj Gopal '06, will perform its annual Homecoming Weekend Concert. The concert will feature the Concert Choir, Women's Chorus, Men's Glee Club and the Madrigal Singers, directed by Andrea Kahn '08 and Elly Jessop '08. The program consists of songs by composers such as Wolf, Schubert, Papoulis and De Cormier. Sat., 9 p.m., Buckley Recital Hall. $6 for general admission and $3 for senior citizens, children under 12 and College students.

A performance piece entitled "Eating Identity" will be presented by Entang Wiharso, a Copeland Fellow at Amherst College. This performance is the first in a series of Copeland Fellow Events based on the theme of "Art and Identity in the Global Community." Mon., 7:30 p.m., Main Quadrangle in front of the Mead Art Museum. No admission charge.
