The personals: Questions for Melissa Pritchard '11
By Audrey Kim, Staff Writer
Are you at all related to Professor William Pritchard of the English department?

No, but if I had a dollar for every time someone here has asked me that, I would be able to drop out of college and never work if I so desired.

What city are you from?

Washington, D.C.

Do you have any interesting stories about living near the Israeli Embassy?

When my neighbors had a new dishwasher delivered, the Secret Service shut down the street and interrogated my neighbor thinking the dishwasher was a bomb because the delivery truck wasn't marked.

What is your favorite movie?

"Mean Girls."

What do you think about Lindsay Lohan?

I think she had so much potential. Oh well. Big fan.

What movies are you looking forward to in the next year?

… We'll see when they get here.

If you could win any award (Oscar, Tony, Nobel Prize, Kid's Choice Award), which would it be and why?

Oscar, so I could be the only person who has ever said something constructive with one of the acceptance speeches.

What is the worst pick up line you have ever heard?

I may not be the best-looking guy at this party, but I am the only one talking to you. (Not used on me though …)

You are on the cross country team. How has your season gone so far? When is your next meet? How long have you been running cross country?

The season's going great. The people on the team are amazing! They're really welcoming of the freshmen, loads of fun to hang out with, and it doesn't hurt that they're a really good team (the women's team is ranked No. 1 for Div. III). Our next meet is on Saturday at Wesleyan, where we will care more about beating Williams, of course. I've only been running for about a year and a half, but it's really fun.

What did you wear the last time you went out on a Saturday night?

I was wrapped in pre-wrap and medical tape fashioned into an outfit. It was risky business, but no exposure occurred, and so … mission accomplished!

What are your thoughts about students who wear/wore the Amherst College lanyards?

That they needed somehow to hold their keys, and were never part of a lanyard-sponsoring organization before?

What is your favorite painting on campus?

The one in Williston dorm. Of a naked, emaciated man contorted in agony, ripping his hair out, about to be hit by a train. It's a really cheery painting. Really uplifting.

What is your favorite dish at Valentine?

Chicken chunks. Just kidding. Actually, I hate that name. It gives the image of birds put in a wood chipper, which really grosses me out.

If you could be in a rock band, what instrument would you play? What would your band's name be? What kinds of music would you play?

I'd play the bass; we'd be called Monkeys with Cymbals; and our music type would be unimportant.

What is your favorite store in Hampshire Mall?

Which mall? I can't keep them straight yet.

What did you do over mid-semester break?

I went to the beach! (As in literally, not the one on top of Merrill.)

If you could go anywhere for a four-week vacation, where would you go and why?

Antarctica. It's a great conversation starter.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

The president of some country-probably this one, but who knows.
