Kelsy: What are we doing?
Becky: We’re waxing.
Kelsy: Wait, I’m confused.
Andres: It’s a wax poem.
… Later, wax on.
Marcella: This dish [enchiladas verdes, $8.50] and the pad thai at Thai Corner are the best dishes in the Amherst area. Thick layers of cheese, sour cream and salsa verde create a synergy of spice and richness; the rice and beans lend subtlety; and the chicken adds heartiness. [Whines] Listen to me now! I’m waxing!
Sara: Honestly, my dish [chiles rellenos, $9.50] is great if you like cheese. They’re like cheese accompanied by chiles, actually. You should write that down and you should also mention that the service is quick and the portions are really generous.
Laura: Dres, give me your reaction [to the bistec a la mexicana, $9.50], but without using any words.
Dres: I don’t know how to do that.
Laura: With words, then.
Dres: ¡Ohhh, mi estómago!
Sara: That makes it sound bad.
Dres: I’m very satisfied … I’m grateful.
Laura: I don’t know if I liked the enchiladas moles [mole-aze, $8.50].
Becky: You only ate the beans.
Laura: It tastes very different than it looks like it should. I’m not a believer, but I don’t dislike it.
Becky: Very diplomatic.
Myric: It came to me before that the tender crust (of my enchiladas) conceals sweet morsels within …Whole Moles (mohls) of deliciousness, in fact. Actually, I’m lying. Is this mozzarella in my quesadillas? Is that weird? [brandishes quesdilla in question]
Laura: It looks like caulk.
[much laughter]
… Laura doesn’t pronounce caulk like caulk.
Laura: Becky, can I try your cactus? [she chews] This is chewy like eating Gumby.**
Becky: Hey, beers are only $3! [Dos Equis]
Laura: You should say something about your cactus [bistec con nopales, $9.50].
Sara: [interrupting] Did you know that Amherst has the only daguerreotype of Emily Dickinson ever made, and her only remaining lock of hair! The research librarians showed it to me for my thesis.
Anonymous: You guys should talk to the owners in Spanish. They might have an interesting story. They might be immigrants!
Small, authentic combination of a Mexican eatery, and a Mexican/Central American grocery store.
Best Dishes: Enchiladas Verdes, Chiles Rellenos, Spicy Pork Burritos (the huge burritos and tacos are less pricey than the entrees), Guacamole.
Building is tricky to find. Go west on Route 9, past Whole Foods, and watch on your right for the small sign. The family-owned restaurant is in the back of the shopping complex and has a small Mexican grocery store attached.
Mi Tierra. 206 Russell Street, Hadley.

**Later she clarified: tastes green bean-y, chewy like Gumby. A highly contested menu item. Becky swears it’s really good. She’s even ordered it before. Amherst kids.
