The Five College Dance Department will perform its annual Faculty Dance Concert. The concert showcases faculty artists from all five colleges, as they perform a variety of genres from ballet to jazz to modern, with many surprise performances scheduled. Thurs.—Sat., 8 p.m., Theatre 14 of the Mendenhall Center at Smith College. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $9 for the general public, and can be pre-ordered by calling 413-585-2787.

The German Theme House presents the Weimar Cabaret, a performance of songs written during the Weimar Republic of Germany (1919-33). Songs by Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, Mischa Spolianksky, Friedrich Hollaender and poet Bertoit Brecht will be performed in both English and German. Light refreshments will be served. Lectures & Readings

Internationally known medievalist Robert Hanning will speak on The Perils of Being a Comic Poet: Ovid, Chaucer, Ariosto. Hanning has published articles on Chaucer, romance, Boccaccio and other medieval subjects, and his forthcoming book is on “The Decameron” and “The Canterbury Tales.” Wed., 4:30 p.m., Pruyne Lecture Hall. No admission charge.

Rosie Molinary, author of “Hijas Americanas: Beauty, Body Image, and Growing Up in America,” will present a lecture and open discussion about confronting the confines of society’s conception of body image. Wed., 9 p.m., Pruyne Lecture Hall. No admission charge.

In a lecture entitled “Meditation and the Neuroscience of Consciousness: A Neurophenomenolgical Approach,” Professor Evan Thompson ’83 will show how self-reports of experience based on contemplative mental training can help advance research in cognitive science. Thurs., 7:30 p.m., Cole Assembly Room. No admission charge.

Activities

Valentine Dining Services managers will hold an Open Forum. The managers will be available to discuss menu ideas and concerns, as well as general suggestions for dining services, with students. Wed., 11:30-1:30, Upper Terrace in Valentine Dining Hall.

Intercambio YA! and Keefe Campus Center present the 40th Anniversary of Casino! The Royal Flush. Featuring a night of gambling, dancing, desserts and music of the Blue Nomads and DJ Music Mayhem. All proceeds go to support scholarships in the Dominican Republic. Sat., 9 p.m., Valentine Dining Hall. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door and $30 for a group of five.

Educate! will host a Broomball Tournament, with proceeds helping to sponsor students in Uganda. All equipment will be provided, as well as a tutorial. Faculty and students are invited, and hot cider and doughnuts will be sold. Sun., 2 p.m., Orr Rink. $3/ per player in advance, $4/player at the rink.
