Fall is here! Which means that fall trends have hit the catwalks and will soon be hitting stores. Do not fall behind! Freezing your brain solid does not mean that you cannot look good while doing it. After reviewing certain shows and flipping through several fall issues of Vogue and other such “fashion bibles,” here are the trends that you might want to follow—again, if you care; if not then just read on anyway.
Structure. This fall season is all about structure and clean sophistication. Examples include a very sober yet playful collection by Versace. For this season, Donatella Versace decided to tone down the color palette and hit Milan Fashion Week with one of the chicest collections around. The advice we take from this collection? Go for neutral colors with some splash of color, and keep a structured form to your coats and tops. Wanna play dress up? Try a dress with an origami structured neckline and bodice and a soft fluid skirt.
Nostalgia. Don’t think this super structured look is for you? Don’t worry, Donna Karan presents a collection that is anything but. This fall Karan says good-bye to her usual powersuit and her uber-useful stretch jersey fabric to bring back the 1920s! Slouchily draped, Karan’s collection is far from what we all expect to see during fall season show. Do we like it? Yes; as a matter of fact, we love it!
Fur. Of course where would fall or winter be without this element? Mink, sable, fox, you name it, they showed it! Whether it’s real or faux, fur is the way to go. Wear it big, belt it for added shape, or use it for added detail on a coat or jumpsuit. Stay warm but look great. That’s what Karl Lagerfeld was thinking over at Fendi when he came up with these looks that are not only catwalk sassy, but also wearable.
These are some of the collections that struck me the most for this season; however, don’t think that this is all that fall fashion is bringing with it. Plenty of other designers presented collections that are mind blowing in both good and bad ways. Expect the dirty dishing next week!
