After logging on to Campuslive.com, I browsed under the delivery options for Amherst and happened upon the Loose Goose Café. I had never even heard of it before and realized that this was because they only deliver Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu listed an impressive selection of sandwiches and salads, but the breakfast sandwiches were practically calling out my name.
When calling to place my order, I was quite surprised by the clairvoyant employee on the other end who knew my name and dorm location! Baffled, I asked her how she knew all of this information about me. With a friendly laugh the woman informed me that the Loose Goose Café is also the beloved Sugar Jones at night, and that they had my information from ordering cookies for my dorm in the past. Knowing how good Sugar Jones is, my confidence in my morning meal increased substantially. I ordered “The Big Band” — egg, smoked salmon, muenster cheese and scallion cream cheese on a whole wheat bagel.
About 20 minutes later, my hefty bagel sandwich arrived hot and fresh. The gooey, melted muenster blanketed the fluffy eggs. Warm and inviting, the smells wafting from the bagelwich were tantalizing. Just one bite and I was in breakfast heaven. The briney, smoky salmon with the silky cream cheese infused with fresh scallion flavor was absolutely delicious. For $6.25, I had a hearty, great-tasting breakfast delivered to my room. My body satiated and my soul nourished (it’s that smoked salmon that gets me every time), I polished off the rest of a paper.
Although I wish they delivered on weekends, or were open all night, I’ll take what I can get from the Loose Goose Café. Despite how enticing some of the other sandwiches sounded, I can’t imagine topping my order. I wouldn’t be surprised if I try another breakfast sandwich next Friday.
