Ask Doc Tyler
By Doc Tyler, MD in residence
Dear Doc Tyler,

I met a guy right before he left to go abroad and it was great. What isn't great is that I might be setting myself up for disappointment by waiting for him to get back so that we can get together. But if I forget about him and actually end up getting involved in a relationship, and he comes back and is still interested, then I will be in a difficult situation. Any advice?

Dear A broad who's not abroad,

Although not obsolete, casual dates are few and far between on the Amherst campus. Your best bet is to maintain communication with your new crush during second semester so you can gauge his interest in the relationship. If you do meet someone new, though, holding yourself back from another potential relationship would be a mistake. Trust your instincts-you seem to have found someone that you really connect with. Talk with him and remain honest so as not to waste your chances with him.
