William E. Ford '83 and Anne Melissa Dowling '80 have been recently appointed to the Board of Trustees, the College announced this week.

"I think they're both young, industrious, successful people," President Tom Gerety said. "I think they're part of a new generation."

According to Executive Secretary to the President Susan Pikor, while the new trustees will begin their terms on July 1, they will attend their first board meeting in October.

She said that Dowling will replace Charles A. Lewis and Ford will replace W. Lloyd Snyder.

According to a press release from the College, after graduating in 1983, Ford attended Stanford University, where he earned an M.B.A. and went on to work as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley.

Ford is currently partner of General Atlantic, where he manages companies including Priceline.com. He also serves as a board member at both the Friends of the Family Academy and Common Ground Community.

Ford lives in Manhattan with his wife and three children.

Dowling graduated in 1980 from the College and went to Columbia University, where she earned an M.B.A. in finance.

She went on to work as an officer at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance, Travelers Insurance and Aetna Life & Casualty before becoming a senior vice president at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company where she's now in charge of the large corporate markets division.

Dowling currently serves on the boards of the American Leadership Forum, the University of Connecticut Foundation, the Metro-Hartford Chamber of Commerce and First Book Hartford.

She lives in West Hartford and is the mother of two children.

Both Dowling and Ford can serve up to two six-year terms.

Lewis and Snyder will both be missed on the Board. As a trustee, Lewis chaired the Capital Campaign, which reached its fundraising goal well ahead of schedule.
