Bub's Player of the Year
By Staff
Jamie Cohen '01
The tennis courts are quiet now, Memorial Hill is silent. But if you listen closely, you can hear echoes of the senior Jeff giants. For the record, the Class of 2001 has been one of Amherst's best; I'm really sad to see them put their purple shirts to rest. But one Jeff in particular will be sorely missed; tennis phenom Jamie Cohen tops this one last Bub's box list. Started off in the one-spot, and that has never changed. All the way to National gold, did this sophomore Jeff star range. 1999 was a team effort; they all took home the gold. But last year, in 2000, a different story was told. Jamie won the individual prize, a feat that made us all cheer. And I'm not one to say so, but it probably made her year. And now, let me bring you up to date, for one last Cohen match: quarterfinals this time, in a grueling three-set clash. This weekend Jamie will graduate, she'll walk the quad in her black robe. Who knows? In a few years, tennis might have taken her around the globe. So head on down to Bub's, Jamie, you really deserve it; and when you come back to visit, let me know, and that table? I'll reserve it.
