Committee silent on presidential search

With less than four months remaining before President Tom Gerety leaves the College in June, there has been no public announcement by the presidential search committee regarding the College's next president.

The Board of Trustees announced that Gerety would become president on Feb. 11, 1994, nine years ago this month.

Professors confirmed that they have not received any communication from the presidential search committee.

"I haven't heard anything at all, which seems a little weird because of the lateness of the time, but these things are always complicated," said Professor of English John Cameron.

"I know nothing. The committee is as silent as a tomb," said Professor of Fine Arts and American Studies Carol Clark.

However, faculty members noted that it is an important search, and finding the right candidate is not an easy task."I haven't received anything," said Professor of Geology Peter Crowley. "The committee has been tight-lipped. Things happen when they happen and I look forward to the announcement."

While many are speculating on who the new president will be, others are worried about Gerety's impending departure. "I never like to see anyone so representative of a college or community leave. A change in leadership can weaken the spirit of a community or team," said John Lian '06. "Whoever the new president will be, I just feel strange knowing that I will have been here longer and I will be more familiar with this community than he or she."
