Zumbyes perform at national finals

Last Saturday the Zumbyes competed in the Varsity Vocals International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) national finals at the Beacon Theater in New York City. The Zumbyes won their position among the six final teams by winning the Northeast division of competition on March 22.

The Zumbyes did not place in the top three groups during the national competition. They are not sure where they placed among the bottom three groups because according to competition rules, only the top three groups are announced. Despite their loss, they were pleased with their opportunity to compete.

"If our musicality could have matched our energy we would have taken first place," said Josh Rilla '06. "But then again, none of us went home that night without a smile because, let's face it-we were singing on Broadway."

Business Manager Brian Clowdus '03 agreed. "In the end, winning really did not matter. What mattered was that we were all on the Beacon Theater stage together having fun and doing what we love," he said.

The Zumbyes competed against a cappella groups from North Carolina State, the University of Oregon, Penn State, SUNY Binghamton and the University of Maine. The groups from Binghamton, Oregon and Maine placed in the top three positions, respectively.
