By Talia Brown, Editor-in-Chief
Eleven students were arrested at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst after the Red Sox beat the Yankees 6-4 in Game 4 of the ALCS on Monday night, The Republican reported. When the game ended at 1:22 a.m. Monday morning after 12 innings of play, approximately 900 students gathered outside the Southwest residential area of campus.

There were no reported injuries or property damages, in contrast to last year when students and police were injured and students damaged $20,000 worth of property after the Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics in the divisional playoffs.

UMass officials reported that they have taken steps to prevent riotous behavior from occurring again. They are using high-powered lighting outside on game nights and have hired unarmed security personnel to patrol residential areas, UMass Police Chief Barbara O'Connor told The Republican. "We've learned a lot from last year and we're better prepared," O'Connor said.
