Senior Admission Fellow Eli Bromberg said that the weekend is a chance for students to experience what the College has to offer. "[The weekend] gives these students a glimpse into what Amherst is about and what they can expect from an Amherst education," he said. "It is also gives them the chance to have their questions answered by us here on campus."
According to Bromberg, 350 students registered for the weekend, although he approximated that anywhere from 360-365 accepted students were actually on campus at any given time this weekend. Bromberg said that approximately 290 students stayed overnight at the College.
The accepted students were housed in dorms with current students. Bromberg said that it was somewhat difficult to find students hosts, but the student body was receptive to the obvious need for hosts. "It was difficult to find hosts but we did," he said. "The student body came through wonderfully."
The College provided educational events and entertainment for the accepted students and their parents. "We had opening session in Johnson Chapel," Bromberg said. "Professor [of Economics] Dan Barbezat and Dean [of Admission Tom] Parker both spoke."
Students and their parents could also take tours of campus. Current students led a panel for the acceptees as well. Bromberg said that the accepted students enjoyed talking directly to current students about questions or concerns.
Several a cappella groups performed including the Zumbeyes, Blue Stockings and Route 9.
Admission Officer Nancy Ratner said that the students enjoyed the musical acts. "The students seemed to love all of the musical events," she said. "People thought it was well organized, and I think students got the answers they really need."
