Students collaborate to ship textbooks to Iraq

Students from Educate!, the Option, and the Amherst College Entrepreneur's Club have initiated Books for Iraq. "The purpose of the program is one, to send used textbooks that are just sitting in the Option to Baghdad University, where they will be used, and two, to raise money for Educate!, which creates scholarships for refugees and underprivileged students in Uganda and Rwanda," said Ashish Bhatt '08E. Bhatt is coordinator of the program along with David Jou '08E.

The Books for Iraq program works with Books Building Bridges, a non-profit organization which will ship donated textbooks to Baghdad University in July. The Books for Iraq program will donate textbooks to Books Building Bridges, but will also accept monetary donations in order to help Educate!, a non-profit organization which provides scholarships for underprivileged students in Uganda and Rwanda.
