Faculty Ponder Mission
By Yuan En Lim, Editor-In-Chief
The faculty met last Tuesday to discuss a number of topics, including the report of the Ad Hoc Faculty Advisory Group on Reaccreditation. As part of the discussion on reaccreditation, faculty considered if the draft of the College's first mission statement reflected, on a broad level, their understanding of the College's mission.

The Advisory Group on Reaccreditation was formed to the New England Association of Schools and Colleges' (NEASC) reaccreditation requirements. In evaluating colleges, the NEASC currently takes into consideration only the extent to which each college lives up to its mission. The College has traditionally never maintained a mission statement, and in 1998, the NEASC requested that the College furnish one for the evaluation next year. Consequently, the drafting of an enduring and representative mission statement has dominated discussion on reaccreditation.

The meeting's agenda also covered approval of proposals for new courses and the continuing discourse on faculty promotions. On the latter, faculty remain locked in discussion regarding the content of the resolutions to revise policies regarding promotion. They are likely to reconvene on April 17 for further deliberation.
