The Association of Amherst Students (AAS) released the results of the Presidential Election last week after a run-off vote between Moe Zeidan '08E and Pat Benson '08. Zeidan was declared the winner with 53 percent or 381 votes. A total of 721 students voted in the elction. The announcement came after several weeks of controversy, including one complaint regarding Zeidan's eligibility to run for president and numerous allegations and character attacks made against both candidates.

Commenting on his victory, Zeidan said, "To be student body president at Amherst College is a huge honor and I hope that I can meet and exceed people's expectations during my time here."

Zeidan spoke positively about his upcoming term. Part of his focus for the fall semester will be to make AAS more accessible. "I'm really hoping to make the AAS more accessible to the rest of the student body," he said. "By this, I mean having members table in Val or the Campus Center to update people on what changes are being made and why some things aren't or can't be done. I want to increase school spirit and pride as much as possible by improving little things on campus, ranging from improving the social life, finding ways to lower textbook costs, more movies in Frost, beautifying the campus and finding ways to make the winter more bearable (specifically, I think a Winter Carnival that rivals that of Dartmouth's and Middlebury's ought to be a project of ours in the next year)."

"There are a lot of people with a lot of down-to-earth, inexpensive and yet significant ideas that would help improve our daily life," he explained. "If we can take these suggestions to heart and pursue them, we'll be able to see a great deal of positive change in the upcoming year."
