Fourth Annual Educate! Date Auction Huge Success
By Josh Glasser, Managing News Editor
Educate! held its forth annual date auction on Friday night, bringing in the organization’s largest haul of dough at a date auction to date. Students packed the Russ Wing of Valentine Dining Hall to bid on 20 Amherst hotties or pairs of hearthrobs to raise $2,443 to help Educate! finance the education of underpriveleged Uganadans and refugees in the country.

Co-Head of Educate! Stacey Frumm ’09 is “absolutely” pleased with this year’s auction, citing the “good turnout, per usual,” as well as the fact that there were “a lot of showmen and show women out there” as reasons for its success. “It was one of the more fun ones that I can remember, in addition to raising the largest amount of money,” she said. Sexy swimmers Ellen Fitzgerald ’10 and Kara MacLaverty ’09 sold for a record $355 dollars.

In addition to continuing to provide money for the education of Uganada’s poor, Educate! is currently “laying the foundation to start programming in socially-responsible leadership and social entrepreneurship,” according to Frumm. Friday’s earnings have certainly given the student-founded, student-run organization a boost.

Matt Rosenbaum ’11 (above), Andre Gary ’11 (bottom left) and Krystyn Elek ’10 (bottom right) were also among those auctioned.
