New crosswalks help ensure student safety
By Staff Editorial
Route 9 has long presented our campus with a safety hazard in the midst of our idyllic town. Cars often speed by, sometimes unable to stop to wait for pedestrians. On more than one occasion in the past few years, students have been involved in accidents due to poor visibility and speeding cars. These incidents brought the safety of the road to the attention of the administration at the highest levels, and we are delighted to see that they have quickly taken action to address the problem. The flashing lights at the crosswalks installed over the summer should greatly improve the safety of students crossing this road. This is an instance where the administration saw a problem and worked effectively to resolve it while remaining sensitive to the concerns of local drivers, who didn¹t want to see traffic significantly slowed by large speedbumps. We applaud this type of cooperation with the town and hope it sets an example for the resolution of future issues.
