Heard Around Campus
By Section Editors
Question of the Week: Do you think Campus Police would be equipped to respond to a crisis like the Virginia Tech shooting?

"I think the Amherst police would handle it better than the Virginia Tech police because we're a smaller school. It would be easier to find the shooter after the initial incident. I don't think a person could shoot two people and then walk around undetected before striking again. Still, I don't know all the details."

"I would be concerned that they wouldn't be equipped to respond to such a crisis quickly enough... that they wouldn't have the equipment and training to respond appropriately."

-Rebecca Oyen '09

"They respond to noise complaints and fire alarms quite promptly, so I have faith they would respond just as promptly to gunshots ... hopefully."
