Letter to the Editor: Dialogue on Abortion Issues is Important to Campus Life
By
The Amherst College Republicans would like to thank the many students, especially those not affiliated with the College Republicans, who attended this Tuesday's discussion on abortion (Whose Body, Whose Choice?). We are deeply sorry that we were forced to postpone the discussion until next week (week of May 1st). Our co-sponsor, the Amherst College Democrats failed to attend. There was literally only one person present to represent the Pro-Choice side of this important issue. Are there really no Pro-Choice students on campus other than those in the Amherst Feminist Alliance (who we regret could not attend due to a scheduling conflict)? Once the College Republicans realized that only one viewpoint was represented at the discussion, we were compelled to postpone the event in the interest of fairness. The Amherst College Republicans are committed to an on-going discussion about the pressing issue of abortion. We believe that the entire campus benefits from informed discussion and therefore seek to facilitate a reasoned debate on the issue. Given recent developments in the political sphere, we believe that now, more than ever, this is a relevant discussion. We invite all members of the College community to join us next week to talk about this important issue.
