The men's swimming and diving teams added four more wins and only one loss to their record over Interterm, which now stands at 7-1. While scoring wins over Springfield College, Southern Connecticut College, Hamilton College, and Wesleyan University and suffering a loss to Williams College, the men set three new records and qualified two swimmers for Nationals.

Rob Winograd '02 captured the pool record in the 1,650-yard freestyle last weekend versus Wesleyan with a time of 16:15.84. Ben Hopkins '03 smashed the one-meter diving school record with 480.16 points against the same team. Both men made B cuts for Nationals in those events. Mike Pohorylo '04 set the pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.50 against Hamilton. Pohorylo's eight wins in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes make him the only undefeated swimmer on the team in any event so far.

The men won their last meet before Christmas break, against Springfield, winning all events but three. Steven Shapiro '04, Chris Morton '02, and Paul Tedeschi '01 swept the 200-yard freestyle, finishing 1-2-3. The Jeffs took first and second in the 50-yard freestyle (Read Porter '01 and Pat Kennedy '02, respectively), 400-yard individual medley (Winograd then Pohorylo), 100-yard breaststroke (Pohorylo then Kennedy) and 200-yard freestyle relay.

Amherst's 400-yard medley relay, made up of Russell Lang '02, Pohorylo, Jeff Sunderland '03 and Kennedy, took first and were followed with a win in the 1,000 yard freestyle by Myles Ranier '01. In diving, Hopkins took the one-meter and three-meter dives with 249.53 and 213.90 points. Winograd was the only three-time winner while Pohorylo, Hopkins and Sunderland scored two wins each during the meet.

Against Williams the tables turned. The men captured only five wins in the meet, including the 400-yard medley relay (Lang, Morton, Pohorylo, and Porter), 200-yard butterfly (Sunderland), 200-yard breaststroke (Pohorylo) and one- and three-meter dives (Hopkins with 255.85 and 255.83).

The men fared better against Southern Connecticut, winning seven of the thirteen events. Amherst took first and second in the 50-yard freestyle (Porter then Kennedy) and 100-yard breaststroke (Pohorylo then Kennedy). Lang, Morton, Pohorylo and Porter captured first place in the 200-yard medley relay. Morton also took the 100-yard butterfly, while Winograd captured the 500-yard freestyle. Hopkins took both boards with scores of 279.83 and 274.5.

The men won every event in a close meet against Hamilton except the 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 400-yard freestyle relay, taking first and second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (Ranier followed by Shapiro). The 400-yard medley relay team of Lang, Morton, Pohorylo and Porter took first. Victories followed in the 200-yard freestyle (Winograd), 50-yard freestyle (Porter), 200-yard individual medley (Pohorylo), 500-yard freestyle (Ranier), 200-yard breaststroke and one- and three-meter boards (Hopkins with scores of 240.38 and 261.23).

The men's final meet of Interterm, against Wesleyan, was pre-scored at 125-118.
