Game of the Week
By Staff
The women's ice hockey team will be looking to avenge an early-season heartbreaking loss when they host league rival Wesleyan University this Friday at Orr rink at 7:00. When these two teams last met in Middletown on Dec. 8 the Jeffs were 0-4 and struggling to notch their first win of the season. Things looked promising through the first two periods for Amherst as strong individual efforts from Allison White '04 and Danielle Williams '03 had the Jeffs riding a three-goal lead into the final period. Williams had two goals in the loss, one coming off of a White assist. She later returned the favor, feeding White in front of the net in the second period for the Amherst rookie's second goal of the season. The Amherst women's first win looked like a sure thing going into the third period, but the defense struggled late and could not contain Wesleyan's Keirsten Von Trap. Von Trap posted a rare natural hat trick, scoring three times in the third period to tie the score at three. With less than two minutes to play Liza Eckels slipped the game winner past Amherst goalie Heidi Alexander '03, sealing the victory for the home team. Since then Amherst has stepped up their play and has a number of wins under their belt. They are 2-1 in their last three games (with wins over Holy Cross and Trinity in addition to a loss to Williams) and are looking to head into the last third of the season with a strong showing at home against a league opponent. If you want to see a strong NESCAC matchup at home next week, head on down to Orr Rink and support your Lord Jeffs.
