•Hamilton College

Hamilton became the benefactor of Swarthmore's decision to drop their football program, hiring Peter Alvanos, Swarthmore's former coach. Alvanos took over an 0-10 team at Swarthmore, and in one year they improved to 4-5 last fall. Last year Hamilton finished 2-6.

•Tufts University

After leading the Tufts women's soccer team to the NCAA National Championship game last fall, coach Martha Whiting was named the Div. III women's soccer coach of the year. In Whiting's second year with the program the Jumbos finished 12-2 before losing to TCNJ in the finals.

•Wesleyan University

Cardinal sophomore Caitlin Snow broke her indoor track team's record for the 20 lb. weight throw en route to winning her event for the fourth time in as many meets at the Wesleyan Invitational. Snow's new mark of 47-3 was nearly a foot over the previous record of 46-5.

•Bates College

The men's basketball team beat Colby on Jan. 13. The 75-69 win not only brought Bates one step closer to the CBB title, it matched the school record for win streaks. The last time the Bobcats won seven games in a row was during the 1952-1953 season.

•Middlebury College

Last week, ice hockey player Michelle Labbe was named the NESCAC Player of the Week for the second time in a row and the third time this season. Also last week, Labbe broke the 200-point plateau, becoming only the third player in Middlebury history to do so.
