The Amherst indoor track teams attended a nine-team invite at Tufts University for the second time this season on Saturday, with the women placing fifth and the men coming in seventh.

"We pulled together pretty well," said junior Tri-captain Molly Burnett. The women, who finished with 75 points, were led by Martha Nelson '03, who won the 3k. Although this was the first time she had run this race, Nelson set a new track record.

The women put on one of their best performances in the distance medley relay, taking second place. The team consisted of Laurel Kilgour '03, Kate Hamill '03, Amie Shei '02, and Burnett.

Alison Dimon '03, who is coming back from a stress fracture, finished fourth in the 3k.

Helen Dole '04, who qualified for the pentathlon at New Englands with her performance over the weekend, had an exceptional high jump and improved on the long jump and 55m hurdles. She also took fifth place in the 500m and helped the 4 x 400m relay team grab fifth place. The other members of that team are Jamie Newman '03, Aparna Nancherla '04 and Annie Perez '02.

In the 5k, Amherst dominated, placing a triumvirate of runners in the top six. Emily Lobsenz '02 led the way with a fourth place finish, with Katie Famous '01 and Hilary Plum '03 taking fifth and sixth, respectively.

Hamill and Kilgour both posted their best times of the season in the 800m, coming in fourth and fifth, respectively. Becca Woo '02, in another strong effort, placed sixth in the 1500m and fourth in the 1k.

The standout performance for the men was their third place finish in the distance medley relay. Mike Page '04, Mike Sypkens '03, Andy Schneider '04, and John Stanton-Geddes '04, made up the relay team that led the Jeffs to their 32-point finish.

Earlier, Page and Schneider raced in the 800m but neither of them was able to place. In the 1k, Stanton-Geddes placed fourth with a season-best time. Ben Kozyak '02 came in eighth, also in the 1k-his first race of the season.

In the 4x200m, the Amherst men's team, consisting of freshmen Eric Osborne, Julius Nanna, Paul Whiting and Robbin Williams, finished in fourth place, setting a school record in the process. Pat Hayes '03 finished strong in fifth place in the 55m hurdles, as did Moshe, who came in sixth in the 400m. Although Moshe started out well in the lead-off leg of the 4 x 400m, a dropped baton during the race squelched any hope for a win, as Amherst came in seventh. Greg Baker '01 finished seventh in the 55m dash, while Sypkens took sixth place in the 500m.

The Jeffs will travel to the Smith Invite this Saturday at 10 a.m. "We're concentrating on qualifying for them, and this will be our last chance," said Burnett.
