Game of the week: Men's Ice Hockey vs. Bowdoin and Colby
By by Sports Staff
Amherst men's hockey has a pair of important home games this week versus league opponents Bowdoin College and Colby College. The Jeffs will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss to NESCAC powerhouse Middlebury College this past Wednesday night with a strong homestand. These upcoming contests are key matchups for the men not only because they are the final two home games of the season, but also because wins this week would give Amherst much-needed momentum to propel them into their final two regular season games against Massachusetts College and rival Williams. In the first of the two games, against Bowdoin on Friday with a start time of 7:00, Amherst will have to stop the goal-scoring pair of rookie standout Chris Pelletier and sophomore Sean Starke. Pelletier leads the team with 14 goals on the season and Starke is not far behind with 10. Bowdoin is currently in sixth place in the NESCAC league, two slots behind Amherst. The Jeffs will have their work cut out for them when they host second-place Colby on Saturday at 3:00. After a recent loss to league leading Middlebury College the White Mules will be hungry and looking to stop their slide in the standings. A talented team across the board with no real scoring standout, Colby will be tough in every line and play hard for three full periods. A win here will give the Jeffs the two points they need to move into a tie for third place in the NESCAC and would also be a fitting send-off for the eight seniors playing their last game at Orr Rink.
