The Indoor track New England Division III Championships were held at separate places for the men's and women's teams. The men placed 14th at their meet, held at Tufts University, while the women placed seventh at their meet at Brandeis University.

The men's relays led the way for Amherst. The 4x400 meter relay team finished strong, placing fourth in 3:26.86. The men placed fifth in the distance medley at 10:48.03. In the individual races, the freshmen lent plenty of support. In the 1500m, John Stanton-Geddes '04 and Mike Page '04 went 5-9, with times of 4:00.07 and 4:05.55 respectively. Tri-captain Robert Long '01 took sixth place in the final 400m dash with a time of 51.46.

Like the men's team, the women had a strong performance in the relay, winning the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:42.26. Amherst also dominated in the individual races, including the 5000m, 800m, and the 3000m. In the 5000, Emily Lobsenz '02, tri-captain Molly Burnett '02, and Hilary Plum '03 took fourth, fifth, and eighth place, respectively. Laurel Kilgour '03, Anne Perez '02, and Aparna Nancherla '04 placed fourth, eighth, and 12th in the 800. Also, in the 3000, Martha Nelson '03 took second, barely missing victory by less than a second. In the same race, Katie Famous '01, Alison Dimon '03, and Erinn White '04 placed 9-10-11.

In all, both teams were satisfied with their results. "One may have expected our spirits to be down due to the absence of our women's team and Max Woolf '04," said Page, "but we really came together and showed support for one another on the track." The men's next match will be the Open New Englands at Boston University February 23-24. At the same time, the women's Open New Englands will be held at Tufts University.
