Nearly a month's hard practice in the gym, leading up to spring break, boosted the team to their first victory.
"The trip to Florida was really good for us as a team because it was the first time we got to see actual ball flight," said Kathryn Kuchefski '04. "Everyone on the team has shown definite improvement. We've all been working on swing changes, and it was nice to see that pay off in competition."
For spring break, the squad traveled to Smyrna Beach, Fla. for a week of hard practice. To close out, the team met Embry-Riddle for a par 72 duel.
Kuchefski carried the day with the best score, an 84, and finished three strokes ahead of her nearest competitor. Jamie Ratner '02 and Katie Gravel '03 also finished well, third with a score of 89 and fifth with a score of 97, respectively. Overall, the Jeffs finished eight strokes ahead of their opponents.
"The match was very helpful to getting back into the mindset of playing under pressure," Kuchefski said.
The match gave the team momentum going into this weekend's Boston College Invitational Tournament at the Oyster Harbor Course in Cape Cod, playing against Boston and Dartmouth Colleges and Harvard University.
The team hopes to improve this season with their new focus on the short game and increasing their intensity.
