Game of the Week:Women's Lacrosse vs. Colby, Mar. 31,10:30
By staff
The Amherst women's lacrosse team, fresh off toppling former number-one ranked College of New Jersey (TCNJ), will be playing the Colby College White Mules this Saturday at Springfield College to begin their NESCAC slate of conference games. Due to poor field conditions and continuing inclement weather, the game will be held on the turf surface at Springfield. The now number one Div. III women's lacrosse team in the country (formerly ranked second) stands at 3-0 after notching wins against Mary Washington, Salisbury and TCNJ. These wins were no small feat, as each of the three teams was ranked in the top 15 nationally at the time of the contest. Amherst snapped TCNJ's 121-game regular-season winning streak, 76-game home winning streak, and 18-game winning streak overall. The game will be an important one for Co-captain attacker Kristin Osborn '01, who was named both the 360Lacrosse and the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse Division III Player of the Week yesterday, after being named Lacrosse Magazine's pick for pre-season 2001 Division III Player of the Year. In this Sunday's game, Osborn has a chance to break two Amherst records. She is one point shy of Greta Green's '96 record of 186 points and two goals shy of Heidi Cline's '98 record of 129 goals. The White Mules come in off a 4-15 drubbing against the Middlebury College Panthers the first week of the season and a game at Williams College today. Colby is led by senior Tri-captains Valerie Cooper, Katherine Lee and Angela Pappas. The game is an important tune-up for their next game versus Middlebury, a traditional NESCAC and NCAA power.
