The men's golf team started its season off with a solid ninth-place finish out of 21 teams, defeating, among others, NESCAC and Little III rival Wesleyan University.

Skidmore and Williams Colleges led the pack at the Duke Nelson Tournament, totaling 610 strokes apiece; Amherst only trailed by 25 strokes with a team score of 635.

Captain Mike Blaisdell '02 led the way for the Jeffs with a two-day score of 74-81-155, finishing tied for 19th overall. Justin Sharaf '05 was also impressive in his first collegiate tournament, shooting 79s each day to finish with a weekend total of 158, good for a tie for 27th overall.

While the men were busy at the Duke Nelson, the women decided to pull out of the Bryant Invitational to give members time to grieve over last week's tragic events.

"We decided as a team not to go," said Captain Jaime Ratner '02. "All the Ivies pulled out as well."

The men will take their drivers and irons to the Williams Invitational this weekend, while the women head to New Haven, Conn., for the Yale Invitational next weekend.

Despite the week off the women still seem ready. "I think this week hurt everyone more than not practicing." said Ratner.
