Game of the Week: Field Hockey and Soccer at Conn College, Sept. 20
Strangely enough, the mecca of Amherst sports this Saturday is not in Amherst, Mass. but in New London, Conn., as the women's field hockey team and both the men's and women's soccer teams play NESCAC rival Connecticut College. It all begins with the field hockey and men's soccer teams, which will both play at 11:00 a.m. The women's soccer team plays an hour later at 12:00 p.m. This will be an important weekend in terms of postseason positioning, as NESCAC wins will determine the level of competition played through each sport's conference tournament. The men's and women's soccer team go into the game hot, with two wins over NESCAC rivals Colby College and Bates College. In fact, both teams come into the game on top of the NESCAC. One big question to be answered this weekend is whether they can continue their NESCAC-winning streak against Conn. The field hockey team also faced the same two NESCAC rivals, which resulted in a one goal loss to Colby and a 4-1 blowout win against Bates. All three teams will be immediately coming into their games with the Camels from games against non-conference rivals. Men's soccer hosts Babson College, women's soccer heads for Eastern Connecticut State University, and field hockey heads to Worcester to face Worchester Polytechnic Institute. So if you're in the mood to get off campus for a day, take the trip down south to New London for some great Lord Jeff action.
