Game of the Week: Football vs. Bowdoin
The long wait has ended. Finally, the football team has come back to Amherst, and promises to satisfy a campus that has been itching for more action after the team's electrifying, streak-breaking performance against NESCAC and Little III rival Williams College last November. The team returns many players from last year and looks to be a league power once again. This week the Jeffs face off against Bowdoin College. The Jeffs were dominant in their season debut against NESCAC rival Hamilton College, shutting the Continentals out 24-0. Running back Kevin Kennard '03 rushed for a career-high 152 yards on 19 carries, leading the ground attack. Okey Ugwonali '02 also had a fine day with 107 yards on 13 carries before leaving in the second quarter with an ankle injury. The stingy defense was also instrumental in the win, containing the Continentals to a mere 185 total yards, compared to the Jeffs' 449. Quad-captains Brian Landolfi '02 and Dan Lalli '02 each posted nine tackles in the game, while Quad-captain Pat McGee '02 added seven takedowns. Hamilton only entered into Amherst territory twice, and they fizzled each time when they turned the ball over. The defense will be important against Bowdoin, which comes in with a hot quarterback. The Polar Bears are coming off a 21-7 loss to NESCAC rival Middlebury College. Bowdoin quarterback Justin Hardison played well despite the loss, going 19-32 on the day for 129 yards, along with a quarterback sneak for a touchdown. If you're a Lord Jeffs' football fan, this game is a must see.
