Coming off their best performances of the season at the NESCAC Tournament, the men's and women's golf teams sustained their momentum with two solid performances the last two weeks. The men didn't have to go far from home, as they played at the TOSKI Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University at the Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst on the weekend of Oct. 6th. The team finished a sound eighth out of 22 teams in the tournament with a two-day combined score of 616. The tournament was won by Yale University, with a team score of 586.

The Jeffs were led by Jude Volek '03 who tied for the tournament lead with an electrifying score of 71-78-149. He was followed by Todd Ballaban '03 and Captain Mike Blaisdell '02, who tied for 29th with matching scores of 155. They were followed by newcomer Justin Sharaf '05 and Steve Collins '03, who shot scores of 157 and 163, good enough for 34th and 62nd respectively.

"We knew we had played [the course] many times. We knew a lot of the holes," said Sharaf. "It was tough though, because the weather was really bad. We've never played in those conditions before."

The women were also busy during mid-semester break playing at the Princeton University Invitational. The tournament took place at the Springdale Golf Course and saw host Princeton finish second in the team competition.

The precocious Emily Foran '05 led the Lord Jeffs to a score of 710 and a 12th-place team performance out of 20 teams. This tournament, which also was won by Yale, saw Foran take 39th place individually. Her finish in Princeton was the best of her collegiate career. Foran was followed by Kathryn Kuchefski '04 and Sarah Godwin '05, who tied for 51st with a score of 177.

The men went on to place fourth in the one day WNEC Inviational on Oct. 11th. The score of 332 was good enough for a tie with Babson College. Host WNEC won the tournament. For the second straight tournament Volek was the standard bearer for the Jeffs, shooting a score of 80 to finish in a six-way tie for eighth place. "We were really satisfied with our performance," Sharaf said.

The women put all their hard work this season to good use in a victory at the Williams Tri-Match at Williams College. Kuchefski paced the Jeffs, with a team best score of 81. She was followed by Foran and Jeannie Limpert '03, who shot scores of 85 and 88 respectively. "It was an all Division III tournament and we were hoping for a win," said Kuchefski. "It was something good to end with and something good to start with." The men head to New Englands in Brewster, Mass., next. "We're expecting to play well, hopefully have a good finish and get some momentum for spring season," Sharaf said.
