Volek, the eagle-eyed member of the men's golf team, was instrumental in the team's tie for fourth place in the Western New England College Invitational in nearby Springfield, Mass. Volek finished in a six-way tie for eighth place in the individual contest, shooting an impressive score of 80. The WNEC Invitational was the second straight week Volek was the low-scorer for the Jeffs.

•Jay Hutchins '02

Hutchins, a defensive back, on the football team, was named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Jeffs' 7-3 home win over the NESCAC rival Middlebury College Panthers. Hutchins was impressive in the game, notching 12 tackles and forcing fumble. That type of effort is needed again this week if the Jeffs are to defeat the Wesleyan University Cardinals in the Homecoming Game.

•Chris Kane '03

A midfielder for the men's soccer team, Kane peformed admirably in the 2-1 loss to top-ranked NESCAC and Little III rival Williams College. Kane scored the only Jeff goal of the game with an unassisted goal 21:11 into the first half, the only score of the half. Kane collected a header, trapped the ball on his knee and sent a rocket past the goaltender. The 1-0 lead would last into the 51st minute of the game.

•Matthew Katz '05

Katz, a member of the men's cross-country team, was the leading Jeff runner in the New England Cross Country Championships in Boston's Franklin Park on Saturday. Running against Division I, II and III runners, the freshman phenom ran a time of 26:56, good enough for 67th place. Katz's performance led the Jeffs to a solid 19th place finish overall in the extremely competitive race.
