Game of the Week: Volleyball hosts Little III's, Sat. Oct. 27
The volleyball team has made good use of its nickname, the Firedogs, this season, with an impressive record of 22-4 overall and 8-2 in NESCAC play. At the Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament this past weekend, Amherst took fifth place overall. On Friday night in pool play, the Firedogs won one and lost one as they defeated Brandeis University in the evening's first match and then lost to Wellesley College in a close 3-2 match. Then, in the championship-round play at Smith College, Amherst swept both matches over Springfield and Bates Colleges and ended in fifth place. After a game against Smith tomorrow at 7 p.m, they will host the Little III's this Saturday, playing against rivals Williams College and Wesleyan University. In the round robin format, games are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. These will be tough games, as the Firedogs have lost to both teams this season, resulting in the two losses on their conference record. Amherst lost to Wesleyan 3-0 in their first confrontation this season, at the Amherst Volleyball Classic, and then more recently they lost 3-2 in a close, five-game match. In their only match-up so far this season, Amherst lost to Williams 3-0. Obviously, the tension has been mounting, and the Firedogs are ready to face their opponents again. So if you're looking for a thrilling way to spend your Saturday afternoon, head over to LeFrak and watch the Firedogs battle it out.
