The women fell behind early on two Dartmouth tries and never succeeded in getting back into the game, despite a try from Kieran Collins '03, who led the women's team with three tries on the season. The defense continued to be strong, holding a Dartmouth squad that had scored 50 or more points four times this season to only three tries.
Although the loss was a disappointment, the women still expressed pride in their play in the game and the season as a whole. "Everyone played with a really high level of intensity," said Collins. "The scrum was really strong. We had a really tight pack because we finally had all our players. We finally came together."
"I thought it was a successful season," said Elizabeth Hawkins '03. "I feel like our team as a whole has improved a lot ... and that's important because half our team is rookies."
The men's team improved to a 2-4 record Saturday, with a 24-15 victory over Boston College. Dave Stasiak '03 and Irv Rakhlin '04 provided the Jeffs' offense with two tries each.
The Jeffs fell behind early, trailing 12-0 at one point in the first half. "They went up early in the game on a drop try, which is a rarity because most teams don't have a good enough kicking game," said Stasiak.
Stasiak broke the Jeffs' scoring drought on a try after a long downfield run. From then on the Jeffs dominated the game on offense and defense, scoring three tries and allowing the Eagles only a kick for points.
Stasiak credited improved teamwork for the Jeffs' success on both sides of the ball this week. "What we did best in the game was support each other. We had ... good team chemistry," he said.
The men hope to continue their success this Saturday at Williams College in the final game of their season.
