Game of the Week: Football vs. Trinity, Sat. 1:30 p.m.
By By Sports Staff
Family Weekend personifies the community-oriented feel of Amherst College, and nothing brings the community together better than a good old football home game. And this year's game should provide something interesting for friends and family alike. The Jeffs are having one of their best seasons ever coming into Family Weekend, with six straight wins and no losses. Amherst comes into the game off a 14-10 victory against a hard-nosed Tufts University team. Jay Hutchins '02 was the player of the game, dominating the Jumbos with 10 tackles on the day. For his efforts he was named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Hutchins led a defense that caused two important turnovers against Tufts. Running back Fletcher Ladd '04 was also impressive, scoring all of the Lord Jeffs' points last week. Ladd rushed for 144 yards on the day, including runs of 44, 18 and 20 yards. Mark Tilki '04 also had a big day returning a kickoff 48 yards to the Tufts 37. Tilki also recovered a fumble at the Tufts 38 with 8:24 left in the game. Though the Jeffs may be looking forward to the "Big Game" against Williams College, the athletic and underperforming Trinity team has compiled a 3-3 record despite injuries to several key players this season. The Bantams enter Massachusetts after a heartbreaking 14-7 loss to the Middlebury College Panthers and will be looking to redeem themselves this week.
