Game of the Week-Football at Williams, Sat. Nov. 10, 12:00
By staff
Amherst College and Williams College have maintained a fierce athletic rivalry with each other-many would claim that it is one of the most intense intercollegiate rivalries in the country-since 1821. While this unique rivalry surfaces on many fronts, its cornerstone has, for the last 115 years, been the annual football game between the two prestigious schools. "The Biggest Little Game in America" is important regardless of the caliber or record of the two teams. But this year, in the 116th meeting between the two schools, Amherst and Williams will be playing for more than just bragging rights; they will be playing for an undefeated season and an outright NESCAC Championship. Amherst (7-0) defeated Trinity (3-4) 28-10 on Family Weekend to position itself for a championship showdown with Williams, while the Ephs (7-0) defeated the Cardinals of Wesleyan (4-3) 31-7 this past Saturday to remain undefeated as well. Last year, Amherst snapped their 14-game winless streak against Williams with a dramatic 20-12 win at Pratt Field. This year, Head Coach E.J. Mills and company will look to complete the College's first undefeated season since 1984. The game will be simultaneously broadcast on television's New England Sports Network (NESN) and the college radio station, WAMH 89.3 FM.
